Spotlight on The Meadows at One Loudoun

In 1950, a family of farmers opened The Meadows Original Frozen Custard in Duncansville, Pennsylvania and their custard quickly became a local favorite. Due to its outstanding success, Meadows franchises have been spreading rapidly and we are extremely pleased that Meadows calls One Loudoun home.

The owner of the One Loudoun franchise of Meadows, Michael Nassif, was born and raised in a town next to Duncansville and fondly remembers going to Meadows on warm summer nights as a child. Wanting to share his favorite dessert with others, Michael opened the first Meadows franchise in Virginia on the One Loudoun plaza in May of 2014. Michael strives to create a community feel to Meadows by employing a friendly and welcoming staff in the restaurant and giving away free deserts at local events.

Meadows has been using the same family recipe for over 50 years and makes each batch of custard fresh every day with dairy from Pennsylvania farms. They take immense pride in the product they produce and from the first bite you can tell their custard is a step above the competition. Many of you may be wondering the difference between ice cream and custard, and the answer lies largely in the ingredients. Custard is made using egg yolk, which makes custard thicker, softer, and creamier than ice cream. Meadows’s custard is also made using a batch freezer, which allows very little air to get in and makes the custard even thicker and creamier.

While Meadows is best known for their custard, they have plenty of other delicious treats available. Their homemade, fat free Italian Ice is very popular and they serve delicious coffee with beans from a local roaster in Shenandoah. A unique specialty of theirs is the affogato, a shot of espresso poured over their rich custard. They have vanilla and chocolate frozen custard available everyday, along with three special flavors of the day. Make sure you check out their flavor of the day calendar on their website or in the store to see when your favorite flavor is being served!
