Dulles Metro To Expand: Loudoun County Supervisors Approve Funding For Silver Line Project

Those looking for Loudoun County homes for sale will be glad to hear the recent buzz that is circulating the entire area. Talk of extending Metro service to the Dulles International Airport and into Loudoun County has been a hot, and sometimes controversial topic in Loudoun since the beginning of this year. The discussion ended Tuesday morning in a 5-4 vote, when the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved funding for Metro Silver Line to be extended to Dulles Airport and two miles into Loudoun County. Many were relieved to hear the news and that the project will finally be moving forward after nearly 10 years of planning.

Those in support of the project predict vast economic development opportunities, the broadening commercial tax base, relief of traffic congestion, and more young skilled professionals being drawn to the area. According to the Loudoun Times, the county will be responsible for just 4.8% of the overall cost, which includes both Phase One and Phase Two. The first phase of the Dulles Metrorail is already underway and will extend from Falls Church through Tysons Corner to Reston, completion scheduled for sometime in 2013. Work on Phase Two could begin as early as 2013 with estimated delivery sometime in 2018, and will include one station at Dulles and two stations in eastern Loudoun County.
