5 Things That Happen When You Go to The Carnival at One Loudoun

As we approached the front entrance to what would be our playground for the next few hours, sensory overdrive ensued as we crossed through the threshold of ticket booths and a rush of adrenaline followed. Lights, laughter, and that familiar carousel tune. This is it. We were finally here and about to enjoy (hopefully) one of the great American pastimes right here in One Loudoun: The Carnival.

Because we want to prepare you for your time at The Carnival, here are 5 things that are sure to happen during an evening under the hotdog signs.

1. You will look absolutely ridiculous on the rides

The hair will be flying everywhere, you will laugh uncontrollably, and you might even lose a flip-flop if you aren’t careful. With your besties by your side, it won’t even matter until you see the photos that your friend, who is “not a ride person,” took from the ground. But trust us; throwing your inhibitions to the wind are necessary to fully engulf yourself in the carnival ride experience.

2. It will shakeup your date night

Smiling? Laughing? What is this craziness?! Do yourself a favor and skip the weekly Netflix date and opt for something more, well, FUN. Whether crushing your significant other in a game of mini-hoops or hanging onto their arm for dear life at the top of the ferris wheel, there’s no doubting that the carnival will make you feel as carefree and playful as when you were kids. Come on over to The Carnival and have a date Danny and Sandy style. Ah, summer lovin’.

3. #TreatYoself is an all day motto

Fried Oreos? Sure. Corn dogs the size of your arm? Why not. Be prepared to indulge in the finest carnival cuisine you’ve ever laid eyes on. Pro tip: have each of your friends get something different so you can have a taste of each without getting full to the point of no return(ing to the rides).

4. You’ll make memories to last a lifetime

It’s the moment of truth. Your little one gets on a carnival ride for the first time ever. The uncertain expression on their face fades as the ride starts to move and there it is: a smile finally forms as they feel the pure bliss of flying for the first time. You can’t help but take about 234 photos during the next minute of cuteness overload, and immediately realize you’re going to need more photo storage on your phone this summer.

Bumper cars and Rides with Friends

5. You realize you’ll be back

When the kids hop back into the minivan to go home, faces covered in chocolate sauce and limbs hanging heavy from exhaustion, you will surely hear them plotting their itinerary for the next visit… which they innocently expect will be tomorrow. If you came with your significant other or gaggle of girlfriends, you now have a foolproof destination for a summer evening of letting loose and having fun.

Friends on Merry-go-round

Take it from us; the carnival is a ONE of a kind experience, and will be one of the best days of your summer. As you can see, it also makes for some amazing photo ops. The Carnival is coming back from August 16-27 by popular demand, so schedule your next night out right here at One Loudoun.

How did the Washingtonian come up with these 50 Great Places to Work? Read on to find out!

WASHINGTONIAN: The Best Places to Work in Washington, DC

Fifty companies, nonprofits, and federal agencies that offer generous pay and benefits, flexible schedules, interesting work, and happy colleagues. Bonus: they’re hiring.

How did we come up with these 50 Great Places to Work?

That’s a question we hear whenever we publish this feature.

(If you’re asking, “Why isn’t my company on this list?,” more on that later. If you’re not thinking that, maybe you need our list.)

To arrive at these winners, we first released an application that any employer could fill out, and promoted it on our website, on social media, and through the Greater Washington Board of Trade. The application asked about everything from telecommuting policies to employee turnover. We then sent surveys to a representative sampling of each firm’s employees, asking them to rate their workplaces on measures such as whether managers are supportive and whether the work is interesting. The employee scores were the major part of determining winners: A company can offer a long list of benefits, but if employees aren’t happy, it’s not a great place to work in our book. A great employer must also be great for the community, so we also looked for company-sponsored charitable activities and giving…

Solebrity wins Loudoun Tech. Company Of The Year!

Friday November 6, 2015 Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce awarded One Loudoun based Solebrity “Technology Business Of the Year 2015”.

A one-year young, social shopping company started by AJ Jaghori and Chris Petrakis and based on the technology developed at The Social Genome Project, Solebrity is now being touted as the fastest growing startup in the newly revived “Silicon Valley East” movement. The company boasts over 20,000 early adopters including millenials, noteable designers, fashion figures, and celebrities and has 1.4 million products in it’s catalog with reach to 2 million social shoppers. The iPhone and Android apps are privately being distributed to early adopters and have been in beta since August. The company plans to launch publically in December.

Solebrity’s technology enables the application to think on behalf of the user leveraging data science algorithms, consumer science and real-time input from a shopper’s network of friends. Solebrity tailors recommendations to each shopper’s unique style and personality to accurately deliver the right products at the right time and at the right price; thus creating a personalized, effective experience.

A portmanteau of “social” and “celebrity,” the app works to channel a shopper’s social capital or “influence” over their networks into purchases and shares half of its earned revenue directly with the shopper that influenced the purchase. “Our app wisely recognize the power of ego in social shopping and allows shoppers to build their following, create personal collections, and become influential fashionistas akin to the average Joe and Jane becoming Instagram Famous.” says CEO AJ Jaghori.

An Instagram-like interface allows shoppers to recommend items, although instead of ‘liking’, users ‘endorse’ a piece of clothing, uniting a brand’s enviable e-commerce capabilities with a social function that encourages more sharing and spending. One of Solebrity’s founding principles is social good; both founders come from humble beginnings and have strong community ties. The company donates 1% of every transaction to charity and makes this process simple and transparent for the shopper. To date, 323 charities have signed up.

Solebrity plans to continue adding brands and expanding into the pets, houseware, and electronics marketplaces, which will be aided by the company’s Smart Watch and Virtual Reality Shopping applications in the near future.
