Loudoun County Supports Small Business Development

“It’s great for all of us to shop locally because [Loudoun County] has it all…Our businesses offer great quality at very competitive prices and our small independent shop owners are among the friendliest and most creative in the country.” – Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd, quoted on the Leesburg Patch regarding promoting small business development in the area.

This week Loudoun County is celebrating national Small Business Week (May 20-26). The purpose of the event is to promote small business growth in the local community through various events including: forums, workshops and networking mixers. For a full list of the week’s events visit Loudoun’s Economic Development site here.

One Loudoun is a strong supporter of small business development, recognizing that small businesses are a key component to the growth and success of the community. One Loudoun has generated a tremendous amount of interest from boutique and specialty retailers looking to take advantage of the community’s 700,000 square feet of prime retail space.

Located in affluent Eastern Loudoun County at the intersection of Rt. 7 and the Loudoun County Parkway, One Loudoun’s retailers will be exposed to nearly 80,000 passing cars each day. Of course the on-site residents (1000 upscale homes), hotel guests (450-room luxury hotel) and employers (3 million square feet Class A office space planned) will all help to support the community’s retailers as well.

One Loudoun Showcased on Commercial Real Estate Tour

The annual NAIOP Bus Tour, one of the premier commercial real estate bus tours in the country, took place this week and was sponsored by the Loudoun Department of Economic Development. The tour caravanned roughly 500 industry professionals to commercial sites from Tysons Corner to Loudoun County.

The tour stopped at several sites to showcase the area’s commercial and professional evolution over the last decade, promoting the benefits of locating a company or business in the county as opposed to neighboring counties. The goal of the tour was to educate attendees on the area’s transformation into a serious business destination.

One Loudoun was one of the more popular stops on the tour. The plans for community’s immense Class A office and retail space have drawn considerable interest nationwide from companies looking to get a foothold in the county’s growing market.

Owners, developers, brokers and financiers all attended the tour which turned out to be a great success.

30-Year Mortgage Rate Falls to 3.84%

Mortgage rates have hit new record lows…again!

Data released this week by Freddie Mac shows that the average rate on a 30-year loan has dropped to 3.84%, while the 15-year is down to 3.07%. The previous record on the 15-year rate was only three weeks old at 3.11%, while the lowest rate on the 30-year loan was seen back in February at 3.87%.

This recent drop, according to Freddie Mac economist Frank Nothaft, is most likely due to easing Treasury bond yields from the slowing economic growth, even though the overall economy is continuing to improve.
