One Loudoun Restaurants: Redefining the Pati-OH! Experience

While we bet the pool, park and Plaza are already on your watch list this summer; on the top of ours is delicious food and sunshine! Let’s face it, food is the cure-all for hanger (among other woes), and Vitamin-D is your best summer accessory. Live your best life this summer by combining the two on the 14 or so patios here at One Loudoun. Luckily, we have the scoop on which ones reign supreme, so find out who made our patio superlatives list for this summer!

Most Family-friendly:
Uncle Julio’s

If you’re looking for a patio where you can contain the clan during a meal, Uncle Julio’s has built up quite a family-friendly rep. The entire patio is under coverings to shade the little ones from getting too hot, or worse, sunburned. There are also railings to keep them from running over to The Plaza fountains in the middle of chewin’ on some delicious Kidsadillas.

The Unbeatable View:
Hail + Hog

Why drive into the city for a rooftop view, when you can enjoy one right here at One Loudoun? If we are talking about prime real estate to sit your beautiful self for a scenic evening with some cocktails and lite fare, The Roof at Hail + Hog is most definitely it. Chic couches, fire pits, and a bar will make you feel like you’re at a swanky uptown hotel with a million dollar sunset view.

The Summer Escape:
5ense of Thai St.

If you’ve been streaming your summer anthems playlist on repeat, we can bet that it’s time for a little getaway. 5ense of Thai St. has just launched their Summer Tiki Pop-Up, which makes their patio the perfect place to send your mind on a little vacation! The Thai beach inspired cocktail menu will send your taste buds for a ride (on a wave that is) and the sunshine will feel just a bit sweeter.

PATIOver-achiever:
Matchbox

While you thought having one just one patio was cool, Matchbox has 4 different outdoor spaces to scarf down their famed mini burgers. Our favorite of the four patio sections is where patio meets bar for a cohesive indoor/outdoor space, but the upper level decks make for some pretty good views too!

Best for Date Night:
Eddie Merlot’s

The only thing that could make a gorgeous steak and seafood dinner more spectacular is a seat outside watching the sun set across The Plaza with the one you love. Now THAT’S amore. If you’re treated to a first date here, then dare we say it, that person has excellent taste and is definitely a keeper.

Most Likely To Throw Shade:
Bar Louie

Double sided and ready for those summer evenings, the patio at Bar Louie extends into the entire restaurant when the weather is nice via walls that open up. This means there are a lot of shady spots to pick from if you don’t want the rays. Even better, Bar Louie is open late night, meaning you can patio chill well into the evening.

Best Patio for Watching the Game: World of Beer

Big screens, lounge chairs, and iPads, OH MY! Get a front row seat to the game on the WOB patio. Sip a cold one in the sunshine and peruse every single beer description using one of their menus – which also happens to be an iPad. No need to wait at the bar for a drink, their knowledgeable servers will be able to answer any questions and keep your glass nice and frosty out on the patio.

The Front ROW Seat:
Quick Bite Row (Nandos, Spinfire, Firehouse)

If you’re someone who loves to people watch, grab some grub at our Quick Bite Row. You’ll have a front row seat to Acoustic Wednesdays, our Summer Concert Series, and other several sounds of summer on The Plaza.

Best-kept Secret:
Zoë’s Kitchen

Tucked back in a nice littler corner off the main drag, you’re going to want to eat here when you need to zip in and out quickly. Did we mention that the Mediterranean cuisine at Zoe’s is also a great choice for summertime? Light. Crisp. Fresh. SUMMER. You’ll be planning your next visit faster than you can say tzatziki.

The Ultimate Hearth:
Copperwood Tavern

This cozy patio spot, on the corner of farm and table, is where you want to go for a more relaxed dining experience. The fire pits spread throughout this patio create a super hearth experience that is the definition of lit. Nothing says “perfect meal” like the flicker of a flame in the background of your crab cake dinner.

Best Spot for an Extended Lunch Break: b One Loudoun

Grab your work spouse and head on over to grab a delicious burger at b One Loudoun. Wondering why this famed burger joint earned the best lunch spot title? Just walk by at lunchtime, and you’ll see the 9-5ers and weekend warriors gathering here for a little brain recharge and some fries. You know what they say: “Suns out buns out!”… hamburger buns that is.

Now class, when your always-down-for-dinner friend asks, “Where can we go to sit outside?” you won’t hesitate to answer, “One Loudoun, duh.”

The One Loudoun Salad Guide – Spoiler Alert: #TOTSONASALAD

It’s 2017 and we’re here to tell you that salads are the new sushi burrito. That’s right trendsetters, salads are back and in a big way. Thankfully, there’s no need to wait in line around the block to get the most delicious salad in town because One Loudoun has all of the salads. Yes, all of them. From a burger joint to a farm to table eatery, we set out on an epic salad quest and are delighted to report that our findings did not leave us disappointed.

The Steak + Greens salad at matchbox

One of life’s greatest questions: appetizer or entrée size? If you love food as much as us, the answer is always entrée. It was like the chef at matchbox read our minds when he recommended we order the steak + greens entrée salad. A plate full of pepper-crusted steak, blue cheese, fresh greens, and red wine vinaigrette? Sign us up immediately. We haven’t even mentioned the best part of the salad, because it deserves its own introduction. Homemade tater tots. No, you didn’t read that wrong. TOTS ON A SALAD. Needless to say this salad was devoured at a record pace and we will be heading back to matchbox in the very near future for an encore.

The Pear and Blue Cheese Salad at Bar Louie

If you’re thinking that Bar Louie taps out at just wings and flatbreads, you couldn’t be more wrong. Their pear and blue cheese salad delivers a one-two punch with the perfect blend of sweetness from the pear and dried cranberries and the savory flavor of the grilled chicken. The awesome staff at Bar Louie agreed that this was one of their favorites, and our taste buds happen to think they’re right. Not to mention, this salad would look great on Instagram. #saladgoals.

The Burger Salad at b One Loudoun

Relax, carnivores. We are not telling you to forsake your precious burgers. The genius people at b One Loudoun thought that as if serving you a zillion burger choices wasn’t enough, they decided to make one into a salad. What do you get when you throw a delicious burger on top of a giant bed of lettuce, surrounded by a ring of pickles and topped with fried onions and, again, TOTS? The most delicious deconstructed burger ever. Shame on us for ever thinking that burgers are one size fits all, because this salad just blew our minds.

Farm-to-Table Salads at Copperwood Tavern

At Copperwood Tavern, we felt like we were tasting the rainbow, as they gave us FOUR beautiful salads to try. The colors of the fresh vegetables were so vibrant, we couldn’t wait to dig in, even though we were already quite full of veggies. Not only are their farm-to-table salads pretty, but they also taste amazing. The Farmer’s Salad had a little bit of everything, from poached pears to pomegranate seeds to a bomb pomegranate balsamic dressing. Speaking of bomb, the dressings on all of the salads really stood out, and come to find out, they’re all homemade. We see you, overachievers. For those veg heads out there, try their Baby Kale Romaine Caesar salad or the Red Quinoa salad. If you really want to pile on the goodies, add chicken, steak, or shrimp to any salad.

Farmers Salad, Red Quinoa Salad, Baby Kale Romaine Caesar Salad, Tavern Salad

Like your parents who say they don’t *really* have a favorite, we would also be lying if we said we didn’t have our favorites on that day. Who knew a salad tour would get so competitive? We’ll definitely be back soon for more salads, but for now we can’t really move. Everywhere else be warned, because One Loudoun’s salad game is strong and delicious.

Don’t be fooled, these are not the only delicious salads you will find at One Loudoun, with many other fan favorites featured at Sense of Thai, World of Beer, Spinfire and more! Visit oneloudoun.com for more information on all of the restaurants in One Loudoun, and make sure to visit the restaurant websites for more information about menus and offerings.

Experience One Loudoun: Copperwood Tavern

Finally the time is here that we have all been waiting for: Copperwood Tavern is now open at One Loudoun! Copperwood Tavern is a one of a kind farm-to-table restaurant that is well loved among residents of NoVA (the original and only other location is in Shirlington, VA). Within only a few days of the restaurant opening, we knew we had to try it!

img_9478edit

As we walked up to the restaurant, we couldn’t help but admire the exceptionally large patio area! Since it was a dreary day outside, we didn’t want to test Mother Nature, so we opted for a table inside.

As soon as we walked in, we realized that Copperwood Tavern couldn’t be a better place to have lunch on a rainy day! The interior of CT is very cozy and looks like the inside of a log cabin – the perfect place to warm up and enjoy a great meal this fall.

The restaurant is complete with flannel-lined booths and log cabin-esque décor, and wouldn’t be a true tavern without a huge stone fireplace and taxidermy deer head mounted above it. With a nod to the restaurant’s name, “copper” is abundant throughout the restaurant, from the pipes on the wall to the water pitchers, and “wood” makes up the walls, tables, and chairs.

Immediately after we sat down, we were presented with the cutest little tin bucket of popcorn. Be warned: after the first bite, you will realize that you may not be able to stop eating it. This stuff is seriously addicting and perfectly coated with butter and a special barbecue seasoning.

As our server promptly greeted us, she made sure to let us know that every item on the menu at CT is organic and farm-to-table. Later, we would find out that this really makes a difference in the taste and quality of the food. If you check out their website at www.copperwoodtavern.com, they even list the local farms where they get all of their fresh produce, seafood, and meat.

Lunch recommendations from our server:

·      Apps: Fried Brussel Sprouts, Fried Green Tomatoes

·      Soup/Salad: Sweet Yellow Corn Soup, Farmer’s Salad

·      Sandwiches: Grilled Rosemary Chicken, Slow Roasted Pork Belly Sandwich

·      Entrée: Brown Ale Butter Chicken

·      Dessert: Cast Iron S’mores Dip

What we ordered:

·      Fried green tomatoes – as someone who has never even had green tomatoes, I wondered if I had been living under a rock because these were amazing. Sliced, fried, salted, and served with a lemon-basil aioli, I could have been content with just these for my meal.

·      BALT sandwich – Of course, BALT stands for bacon, avocado, lettuce, and in this case, more fried green tomato, with smoked tomato-chipotle aioli. This sandwich looked so good, we had to pick it up to show all of the layers. And it was very, very good.

·       Grilled rosemary chicken sandwich – The menu says, “Rosemary marinated chicken topped with smoked Gouda cheese, bib lettuce, maple mustard, bacon and tomato,” but it should say “the most succulent chicken sandwich you’ve ever had.”

Copperwood Tavern also serves Brunch on the weekends from 9am-4pm, which is one of the longest running brunches we have heard of – perfect for avid brunchers. On more than one occasion, we’ve been told that the duck hash is the way to go for brunch. If you wander into CT for dinner, you will see that their dinner menu has a large selection of entrée options including locally sourced seafood and meat.

As you can see in the photo above, Copperwood Tavern also has a huge bar area, with a large lineup of bourbons and local draft beers that lend a hand to the cabin-like feel. Additionally, the actual drink menu is a long list of handcrafted cocktails, bourbon, beer, wine, and moonshine; yes, moonshine. We couldn’t decide on a beer, so our server was kind enough to bring samples of a few! Other cool things that you need to know about CT include their Dog of the Month contest and $1 Oyster Hour from 4pm-7pm Monday-Friday.
